VAJRA Faculty Scheme
A golden opportunity to do research in India with Indian Government Institutions

India, like other countries in world, faces scientific challenges that often are highly complex and require perpetual research and multidisciplinary expertise for which international partnerships are now welcome.

It is prudent to utilize the specialized knowledge and technical skills of overseas scientists, specially NRI/PIO/OCI, in our national endeavour. The Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) that works under India’s Department of Science and Technology, has come up with a scheme to provide international dimension to the R&D ecosystem of India and to attract expertise of overseas scientists to the Indian research framework. The scheme has been named ‘VAJRA’ (Visiting Advanced Joint Research) Faculty Scheme. This scheme primarily aims to provide flexible avenue for overseas Indian scientific diaspora to contribute to the growth of R&D in cutting edge technology that would help in accelerating scientific, technological and economic prosperity of the country.

VAJRA Faculty Scheme is open to all overseas scientists/faculty/R&D professionals including NRI/PIO/OCI who would like to undertake research in science and technology priority areas. VAJRA Faculty would be able to (i) engage in collaborative research of highest global standards in public funded institutions (ii) undertake teaching etc. in addition to research (iii) involve in developing technology, setting up start-ups etc. Initially, the residency period would be from one to three months. It could, however, be extended if required by the host institution. The VAJRA Faculty would be provided with USD 15,000 in the first month and USD 10,000 for next two months to cover their travel, honorarium, accommodation and medical/personal insurance.
