New/Re-issue of passports

A new passport can be issued on the expiry, or up to one year before expiry, of any passport, which had an initial validity of 10 years. To apply for a new passport you need to submit the following:

  • duly filled-out and printed online application form (see Consular Forms) with four signatures
  • three colour photos (see Photo requirements)
  • original passport
  • copies of your current passport/residence permit
  • a receipt of the payment of the consular fee

NB! If any of your personal details have changed since the issuing of your current passport (i.e. change of name, change of address in India, change of marital status), you will need to submit additional documents. When a new passport is being issued, no additional fee is charged for change of address or change of marital status. Additional documents required for change of address in India:

  • proof of the new address, for example a copy of your voting card

Additional documents required for change of marital status:

  • if you have gotten married:
    • copies of your spouse’s passport
    • copies of your marriage certificate and apostille
  • if you have divorced:
    • copies of the divorce deed/death certificate duly attested by the Consular Section of the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi
